Background: The Monsoon School was a week long program attended by a diverse group of participants interested in understanding the dynamics of the Western Ghats landscapes, wildlife, people and practices during the Monsoon. The school was a space to observe how nature and the dwellers of the Ghats move together with changes in seasons to create a unique and situated knowledge system which is urbanizing at an alarming pace.
The Monsoon School branding was designed for digital and print collaterals keeping in mind the lushness and layered landscapes of the region. To include the cultural diversity of the Ghats as it spans through the regions of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Konkan, Tulunad, Malenadu and Kerala, different scripts and rain words dotted the designs.
The prints were done on natural materials such as kraft paper and cotton to maintain the integrity of the event, as an effort to conserve the environment.
The Monsoon School was organized by the Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Adaptive Ecologies and Climate Extremes - Decolonizing the Anthropocene, in collaboration with Manipal School of Architecture and Planning , Centre for Dweepa and Centre for Sadbhava.
