Client: Natural Justice

Role: Publication Designer

Design synopsis: Design Thinking, Mapping, Visualization, Illustration & Publication Design

Background: Natural Justice is a law organization taking rights and laws to the grass-roots with communities who are protecting their landscapes and socio-ecological relationships. This document is a compilation of the best practices used by local organizations across the world to map their landscapes, livelihoods, resources, stakeholders and traditional practices to document and protect them.
The document combines case studies and tools for self-assessment. The tools are introduced by a mascot who is inquisitive and creative, encouraging community members to exercise creativity  when mapping their landscapes. The tools encourage communities to use their folk knowledge and native practices of conservation in order to decolonize the way we look at our environment.
The project was based in Benin, Africa while the case studies and material were sourced from workshops held in Bhutan, Turkey, Ghana, Indonesia, Cameroon, Ecuador, Kyrgystan, Malawi and India. It becomes an important document for the exchange of knowledge where such efforts have proven to be successful.
